About Therapist Kristen Moyer:
Hello! My name is Kristen Moyer and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) at Montgomery County Counseling Center. My passion for helping people tackle some of their most intimate and complex problems drew me into this field. I wholeheartedly understand that taking the first steps to start therapy is difficult given the uncertainty. Any decision to commit to changing your life is no easy one. And therapy is no exception. Whether this is a new journey or one you have been on for many years, I hope to provide you a safe environment where you feel supported as you navigate these changes. Together, we will explore areas that you identify as most concerning and significant to you and we will create tangible, realistic goals that promote a Life Worth Living.
Not only is everyone unique, but each of us has positive qualities and strengths. Sometimes it’s difficult to allow those positive qualities and strengths to shine through. I strive to provide you with skills that will assist you in shining bright and allowing yourself to become a better version of YOU.
Education and Experience as a Therapist
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from West Chester University (PA) in 2010 and continued on to earn my Master’s Degree in Professional Clinical Counseling from La Salle University (PA) in 2014. Post-graduate school, I moved to St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, and began working as a Registered Behavioral Technician, providing behavioral therapy to children diagnosed with Autism. I also worked as a counselor at a K-12 private school, where I administered individual and group therapy to students. In 2017, I relocated to Arlington, VA and continued working as a therapist, assisting children and adolescents who struggle with education and their behavior in a school setting. Last year I transitioned away from the school setting to working with adolescents and young adults in an IOP setting, where I facilitated Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) in individual and group sessions. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy for trauma treatment.

Personal Life

I enjoy the warm weather and any warm weather outdoor activity! Accordingly, when I’m able, I enjoy returning to the Virgin Islands to visit friends and family. While at home, I try to take advantage of lazy days and cuddles with my fuzzy kitty monster, Cleopatra. I am passionate about experiencing new cultures and think two of the best ways to do so are through food and travel. I am always excited to try new foods, so if you have any favorite dishes or recipes, please share! So far, I have had the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco, Italy, Scotland, and Australia and hope to continue to add new destinations to my list.
