About Graduate Clinical Intern Coley Samuels
Hi! I’m Coley and I’m so glad you’re here. I’m currently in the second and final year of my MSW program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. My approach is warm, genuine, and non-judgmental. Our sessions are a space where you don’t have to filter yourself and can show up exactly as you are.
While I have a particular interest in teens and young adults, I enjoy working with people at all stages of life. Folks of all ages deserve support growing into who you are; navigating identity, self-worth, friendships, family dynamics, boundaries, and the many changes that come throughout time.
I use authenticity and humor to build a space where you feel at ease. We will work through what is affecting you now while also taking the time to recognize patterns and understand where they come from. Ultimately, I want you to feel more comfortable in your own skin and treat yourself with the same compassion you offer to others.
I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and psychodynamic therapy. But above all, I believe the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of meaningful work. Rather than sticking to one approach, I tailor my work to what feels most helpful for you. I also love incorporating creative modalities and exploring somatic work, because I believe the mind and body are deeply connected.
Education and Experience
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park, and I’m currently completing my Masters in Social Work at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
My experiences have given me the chance to connect with and learn from people with different backgrounds, experiences, and needs. Before pursuing social work, considered a career in and worked as a dental assistant; I realized what I loved most about the job was sitting with patients, hearing their stories, and easing some of the anxiety that showed up in the dental chair and in their lives.
During college, I worked as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), helped Autistic children build communication and daily living skills, while supporting them in feeling more confident and comfortable in their everyday life. I also worked in affordable housing, where I connected individuals and families to resources, helped them through complex situations and everyday stressors, and facilitated a monthly women’s support group focused on self-care.

Beyond the Therapy Room

I was born and raised in Montgomery County, and I’m a proud Caps fan! I love live music and going to concerts, hunting down new food and coffee spots, and getting lost in a good podcast or audiobook. Lately, I’ve been listening to Esther Perel’s Where Should We Begin? and the more spiritually focused Claim Your Power. I’m also drawn to true crime and psychological thrillers, or Jake Shane when I’m in the mood for something fun and lighthearted.
You can usually find me laughing with friends and family, traveling, or spending time outdoors, especially on (extra-long) walks with my dogs, who insist on sniffing absolutely everything. One of my dogs, Ozzy, is a Westie, which is a breed my family has had for generations!
