About Client Care Coordinator Joanna Hokama

Hello there! I’m Joanna, the Clinical Care Coordinator at Montgomery County Counseling Center. In most cases, I’m the first person you will speak to when reaching out to our office.

I believe that our need to connect as human beings is as fundamental as our need for food or water. Our well-being depends on the relationships we have with others. For better or for worse, those relationships are complicated and at some point we could all use some support.

A good client-therapist relationship is essential when it comes to connecting with and getting the most out of therapy. With over a decade of experience working in the mental health field, I understand and appreciate the unique needs of every individual. My goal is to connect you with the right services and the right therapist on our team so you can start feeling better as soon as possible.

Whether you’re considering therapy for the first time or are a therapy veteran, I look forward to speaking with you soon!

Education and Experience

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Family Science from the University of Maryland and my Master of Science degree in Nutrition from Maryland University of Integrative Health. I also have a specialty certification in career coaching.

Throughout my career, I’ve held both clinical and leadership positions in healthcare and education. For the past 10 years, I’ve provided academic and executive functioning support, nutrition therapy and career coaching to emerging young adults preparing for college life and beyond.

Personal Life

Fun fact: I’m a scuba diver and of the many spectacular sites I’ve visited around the world, my favorite one was diving with a school of reef sharks in Costa Rica! A Montgomery County native, I made the long and arduous trek to Howard County where I live with my husband, two kids and two dogs – Brody and Huck. I’m always game for an impromptu dance party and have a habit of making up my own words to songs. I love to entertain and cook for family and friends, especially when the food comes from my backyard garden.
