Myriam Tchatchouang, LMSW

You look like you’re holding it all together on the outside, but inside you’re exhausted from overthinking, striving, or never feeling “good enough.” Maybe you’re struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, body image, or your relationship with food. Or perhaps you’re trying to figure out who you are outside of everyone else’s expectations. We can work together to make sense of the experiences and patterns that have shaped you, creating space for greater self-trust, emotional flexibility, and a more compassionate relationship with yourself.

About Therapist Myriam Tchatchouang

Hi, I’m Myriam Tchatchouang (Tatch-won), a Licensed Master Social Worker. I believe therapy is a space to deepen self-awareness, make sense of our experiences, and create meaningful change. My approach is rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and reflection, recognizing that meaningful insight often comes from exploring the patterns and relationships that shape our lives. My path to becoming a therapist wasn’t a linear one. Before entering the mental health field, I spent nearly a decade working in philanthropy and development. Through that work, I recognized my desire to create change more directly through healing and connection.

I utilize a person-in-environment approach, recognizing that our relationships, families, cultures, communities, and environments shape our experiences. Together, we explore the deeper roots of your experiences and the patterns that shape how you see yourself. All while building self-trust, increasing emotional flexibility, tolerating uncertainty, and developing a more compassionate relationship with yourself. I strive to create a collaborative and nonjudgmental space where you feel comfortable exploring the parts of yourself that may feel difficult, complicated, or misunderstood.

I especially enjoy working with adolescent girls and women from diverse backgrounds, including Black women, women of color, immigrants, and first-generation individuals, navigating the intersections of culture, identity, family, and body image.

Education and Experience as a Therapist

I earned my Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Arts in International Relations from American University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Howard University. I am licensed to practice in Washington, D.C., and Maryland.

My clinical experience includes working with adolescents, young adults, adults, and families across hospital settings, Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP). I have experience treating individuals with eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, ARFID, and OSFED, as well as OCD, anxiety, depression, identity-related concerns, and life transitions.

I integrate techniques from a variety of therapeutic modalities to best meet each client’s unique needs. My clinical training includes Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Family-Based Treatment (FBT). I also incorporate elements of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT) into my work.

Beyond the Therapy Room

I was born in Cameroon and raised in Maryland. Having spent significant time throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia, I consider the DMV home. My Cameroonian roots and international upbringing have shaped the way I understand culture, family, and connection. I love staying connected to my culture through food, language, traditions, and stories shared across generations, while also valuing conversations around spirituality, meaning, and personal values.

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy the things that bring me joy, connection, and balance. I love running, barre, and trying new things. Most recently, I started ballet. So humbling. So fun! I enjoy exploring new places, trying new restaurants, watching movies, and spending time with friends and family.

I’m also often with my rescue dog, Georgie, also known as the “welcome committee” at the dog park. She has never met a stranger and is truly the social butterfly of the family.
