About Therapist Annie Bertran:

Hi everyone! I’m Annie Bertran, Licensed Certified Social Worker Clinical Therapist at Montgomery County Counseling Center in Rockville, MD. I believe in providing a safe and supportive environment where I will collaborate with you to meet your goals through the practice of new skills in your daily life. My experiences throughout my career has taught me how to remain calm no matter the crisis. I will be your steady emotional rock to lean on as you work through the difficult times in your life.

One of the most important tools for good therapy is the therapeutic relationship. I find it an incredible honor to be welcomed into the lives of my clients in the most vulnerable of ways.

Education and Experience as a Therapist

My higher education began at University of Maryland, Baltimore County where I got my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work with a minor in Psychology.  After I graduated, I lived in the heart of New York City for a year where I worked as the Resident Advisor for a homeless shelter for boys aged 18-21. After that I returned to Baltimore to where I earned my Masters in Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

Throughout the past decade I have worked in settings including schools, nursing homes, intensive outpatient programs, emergency rooms, and a partial hospitalization program. I have extensive experience with adolescents and young people transitioning into adulthood. Client I have worked with in the past have experienced concerns including trauma, school issues, family stress, mental health disorders, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorders. I am licencsed in both Maryland and Virginia so I can see clients online from either state.

I received extensive training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) as well as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) through Behavioral Tech. My clinical perspective considers how a whole system affects each person uniquely.

I am licensed in both Maryland and Virginia so I can see clients online from either state. I am also certified to provide clinical supervision for LMSWs and LGPCs in Maryland. In supervision I focus on enhancing the skills, giving guidance in managing crisis situations, building clinical knowledge, navigating ethical issues in the field, and exploring self-care for those earning their supervision hours in Maryland.

Personal Life

On any given day, you can find me at home with my three fur-babies. I have 2 adorable and needy cats, Buttercup and Phoebe. Also I have a new puppy, Bennet, who likes to steal my attention from his older cat sisters. My favorite places to visit are Shenandoah Valley and at Ocean City, Maryland. I collect postcards from every place I travel and decorate my home with those and with pictures of friends and family. I love theater. So I go to the Kennedy Center with my sister, watch musicals, and have soundtracks on repeats. Bistec Empanizado is my favorite meal, influenced by my father who moved to the US from Cuba as a child. I enjoy learning more about my heritage through stories from my grandmother. I can’t wait to get to know you and all those little fun important details that make you you.
