Montgomery County Counseling Center values the perpetual growth of therapists both on our team and within our community! Not only does group supervision help newly licensed clinicians accrue supervision hours quickly, it also provides an opportunity for collaborative learning and peer support in a career field that can often feel isolating and/or draining. We’re proud to offer these groups led from our both of our talented and compassionate directors, Sara & Laura. Groups are open to all counseling professionals, regardless of work place environment, years of experience, or licensure type.
Clinical Social Work & Counseling Group Supervision

Our clinical director Sara Varga brings a wealth of experience from a variety of work place settings along with a sense of humility to her supervision style. She has a CBT/DBT orientation (is intensively trained from Behavior Tech) and over 2 decades of expertise in adolescent therapy, SUD and DV treatment, wilderness & higher levels of care treatment, and much more. Beyond focusing on case conceptualization and interventions, she also incorporates development of the self-as-therapist. She addresses themes of compassion & burnout fatigue, resiliency, and career development to make this work sustainable!
Sara Varga LCSW-C is licensed in Maryland and Virgina. Check out her bio for even more on her professional experience and supervision style!

Marriage and Family Therapy Group Supervision
Relational therapy is particularly unique in that it requires more skill AND more self-regulation from a therapist in session than what might be needed in an individual therapy session. In this MFT supervision group, we conceptualize cases systemically, we will navigate parallel process between clients’ relationships and the therapeutic relationships, and we will explore work to protect and preserve therapists’ energy to preserve longevity in this important work. Laura brings this a systemic perspective to all therapy cases, regardless of whether the client is an individual a couple or family. With training and expertise in both DBT and Gottman Couples work, Laura conceptualizes cases from a behavioral lens while also maintaining a trauma-informed and neurodivergent-affirming lens.
Laura Goldstein, LCMFT is a licensed MFT supervisor with MD state board and is also licensed MFT in Virginia.

MFT Supervision Group meets virtually every Tuesday from 2-3pm.

A Note about Group Supervision for Licensure Application
Of course we are happy to support you if you are specifically seeking to apply group supervision hours to your licensure application, and we will gladly help with any necessary paperwork! However, please know that it is your own responsibility, not MCCC’s, to determine if these group supervision hours will be applicable to your needs. Please check with your specific state’s licensing board to confirm how many supervision hours are permissible from group supervision, as well as how many hours are permissible coming from a supervisor with either an LCSW-C license (Sara) or an LCMFT license (Laura).
