It takes real courage to seek therapy, but that first step can open the door to profound insight, healing, and lasting change.
About Clinical Intern Sarah Wang
Hi, I’m Sarah, a clinical intern at Montgomery County Counseling Center. I’m passionate about supporting people through life’s challenges and strive to bring clarity, compassion, and confidence into the therapeutic process.
My path into the field of mental health has been a little unconventional. For nearly twenty years, I practiced law in Washington, D.C., focusing on government investigations and white collar litigation. Over time, I realized that what I valued most in my legal work was connecting with people on a deeper level and helping them feel heard, understood, and supported. That realization ultimately led me to pursue graduate training in clinical social work.
As a clinical intern, I strive to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where people feel safe exploring the parts of life that feel overwhelming. My approach is integrative, drawing from psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, and strengths-based practices, and is always tailored to meet each client where they are. I am especially interested in supporting people through major life transitions, stressful situations, and identity exploration, and I enjoy working with adolescents and adults of all ages.
Education and Experience as a Clinical Intern
I am currently pursuing a graduate degree in Clinical Social Work at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, while completing my clinical internship at MCCC under the supervision of Laura Goldstein, LCMFT, founder of the practice. This role allows me to bring classroom learning into real-world practice and support adolescents and adults as they navigate life’s challenges.
As part of my training, I also interned at a high school in the Montgomery County Public School system, where I gained valuable experience in a school-based setting and had the opportunity to work directly with adolescents.
