Our well-being depends on the relationships we have with others. For better or for worse, those relationships are complicated and at some point we could all use some support.
About Creative Operations Director Joanna Hokama
Hi there! I’m Joanna, the Creative Operations Director at MCCC. In my role, I’m able to combine my passion for creative problem-solving with my commitment to improving the client experience. My focus is on streamlining and enhancing our operations to make our services more accessible and efficient. I’m lucky to work with a talented team, and together we develop new strategies to support both our clients and staff, helping MCCC grow in a positive and sustainable way.
I started at MCCC in 2022 as the Client Care Coordinator, where I helped clients navigate the often overwhelming process of seeking therapy. That role deepened my appreciation for the importance of clear communication and client-centered support. Now, as Creative Operations Director, I get to apply my skills in operational strategy and creative thinking to make an even greater impact.
Education and Experience
I received my undergraduate degree in Family Science from the University of Maryland and my graduate degree in Clinical Nutrition from Maryland University of Integrative Health, where my thesis explored the role of nutrition in ADHD management. I also hold a specialty certification in career coaching and am currently enrolled in Landmark College’s Learning Differences and Neurodiversity certificate program.
Throughout my career, I’ve held both clinical and leadership positions in healthcare and higher education. For the past 10 years, I’ve supported emerging young adults as they prepare for college life and navigate the transition into adulthood. My work combines academic and executive functioning support, nutrition therapy, and career coaching, with a strong focus on clients with ADHD.
In addition to my work at MCCC, I run a small private practice where I specialize in executive function coaching for college students. I bring deep expertise in disability services within higher education and am passionate about helping neurodiverse students build the systems and self-awareness they need to excel.

Fun fact: I’m a scuba diver and of the many spectacular sites I’ve visited around the world, my favorite one was diving with a school of reef sharks in Costa Rica! A Montgomery County native, I made the long and arduous trek to Howard County where I currently live with my husband, two kids and adorable dog, Finn.
I’m always up for an impromptu dance party and have a habit of making up my own words to songs. I love to entertain and cook for family and friends, especially when the food comes from my backyard garden.
