Carolyn is no longer taking clients at Montgomery County Counseling Center
About Therapist Carolyn Hoffmann:
Hello! I’m Carolyn Hoffmann, a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) Therapist at Montgomery County Counseling Center. I am a true believer in the therapeutic power of dialogue. Let’s face it, life can often be complex and messy, but with a supportive environment to talk things through, it can feel much easier to tackle. I strive to provide an inclusive, empathic, and non-judgmental space to really dig into managing your emotions and daily stressors as we work to nurture your positive personal relationships.
My ultimate hope is to empower my clients to identify emotions so you can advocate for your needs in your daily life. I use a balance of listening and open-ended questions to really understand your life experiences. In my approach, I prioritize connection and reasonable expectations as we identify together what sustainable change means for you.
I love being a supportive, consistent figure in the lives of my clients when they don’t have that already. I value modeling what trust and support can look like in your daily life.”
I utilize a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and person-centered style to support my clients through difficult times. Because of this, I work best with clients who are interested in working on their self awareness to identify their strengths, areas for improvement, and goals. I am able to provide both casual and structured therapy options, based on my clients’ needs.
Education and Experience
I received my bachelor’s degree in Gender and Sexuality Studies with a minor in African American Studies from the Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. I have nearly 10 years of experience working in the nonprofit space directing social service programs that support trauma survivors. My training includes both standard cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma-focused CBT. I am currently going through the DBT training through Behavior Tech and I’m excited to start working with DBT cases. I am licensed in both Maryland and DC, so I am able to see clients online from both locations!

Personal Life
I currently live in Montgomery County with my long-term partner and our 7 year old dog, Roo. Roo, who is 50 pounds, thinks any dog can be a lap dog if they just believe! Outside of walking my neighborhood with them, the highlights of my days are my evening gym classes and playing board games with friends. As an empathic introvert, I also love my alone time to recharge. These days, you’ll often find me curled up at home watching movies or documentaries at home with Roo. As the daughter of a career flight attendant, traveling is a big part of my personal life. I love any opportunity to take a trip where I can see a new place with my loved ones. I look forward to connecting with and learning more about you!
