About Therapist Allie Isakowitz:
Hi! I’m Allie Isakowitz I’m a Registered Psychology Associate Therapist at Montgomery County Counseling Center in Rockville, MD.
My background is in clinical psychology and evidence-based therapy. Although I do have a more structured approach to therapy, sessions still have a casual, patient-centered feel. My style is a balance between acceptance-oriented and change-oriented, which means that I am heavy on validation AND help identify where there is room to grow. The relationship between the therapist and the client crucial for the success of treatment. I approach this through gentleness, humor, and “real talk” when needed. I involve parents heavily when working with children. I believe in intervening at the level of the child’s environment, which includes coordination with both home and school.
My psychology training has also led me to value the importance of using clinical research to guide treatment planning. I like to use outcome measures (aka self-report questionnaires) to track progress for my clients, and ensure the effectiveness of treatment throughout the process. My training and experience administering psychological assessments has shaped my ability to comprehensively conceptualize treatment from a holistic approach. As a result, I am a great match for folks coming in for first-time treatment or a history of treatment approaches that “just haven’t worked.”
I believe in using the “gold standard” treatment according to research and tailoring it to meet the needs of the specific client.
Education and Experience as a Psychologist
I received my BA in Psychology with minors in Sociology and Business Administration from the University of Delaware. Then I earned an MA in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Children & Adolescent Psychology from Montclair State University in New Jersey.
My experience in the individual therapy setting ranges in working with folks ages 4 through adulthood. My experience in the group setting ranges from preschool-aged children to adults. I have worked in both the outpatient and partial hospitalization levels of care in both private practice and community-based settings. I have worked with a diverse population and actively strive to build ongoing multicultural competence.
My background is primarily in DBT for all ages; I have extensive training including the Behavioral Tech certification in the DBT Comprehensive Course. I have experience and specialized supervision in DBT-C (DBT for children). I also have training and certification through the National Education Alliance for Borderline Personality Disorder for Family Connections, which is a DBT skills-based group for the family system of those struggling with pervasive emotion dysregulation.

Personal Life

I was born and raised in New Jersey and I moved to the DC area in 2018. I have a golden retriever named Bear and an orange tabby named Tito who are my pride and joy. The beach is my happy place. I enjoy staying active, which could mean taking Bear for long walks, practicing yoga, or taking cycling classes. I equally enjoy kicking back, relaxing, and watching Netflix! I am always listening to an audio-book or a podcast and welcome recommendations of all genres
