About Therapist Allie Gasbarro:
Hi! I’m Allie Gasbarro I’m a Registered Psychology Associate Therapist at Montgomery County Counseling Center in Rockville, MD.
My background is in clinical psychology and evidence-based therapy. My psychology training has also led me to value the importance of clinical research and using it to guide my treatment planning. I like to use outcome measures, or self-report questionnaires, to track progress for my clients and assess the effectiveness of treatment throughout the therapeutic process. My training and experience administering psychological assessments has shaped my ability to comprehensively conceptualize treatment from a holistic approach. As a result, I am a great match for folks coming in for first-time treatment or a history of treatment approaches that “just haven’t worked.” I am also trained to respond to crisis situations for individuals of all ages and risk levels to create an effective and evidence-based treatment plan.
Although I do have a more structured approach to therapy, sessions still have a casual, patient-centered feel. My style is a balance between acceptance-oriented and change-oriented. This means that I am heavy on validation AND identify that there is always room to grow. The therapeutic relationship between the therapist and client is crucial for the success of treatment. I approach this through gentleness, humor, and “real talk” when needed.
I believe in using the “gold standard” treatment according to research and tailoring it to meet the needs of the specific client.
My training in evidence-based therapy has highlighted the importance of treating children at the level of their environment. Therefore, I often heavily involve parents in the treatment of their child and believe in creating a “change ready environment,” or one that models and validates the child’s needs in order to set them up for success in treatment. I believe in intervening at the level of the child’s environment, which includes coordination with both home and school.
Education and Experience as a Psychologist
I received my BA in Psychology with minors in Sociology and Business Administration from the University of Delaware. Then I earned an MA in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Children & Adolescent Psychology from Montclair State University in New Jersey. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults at both the outpatient and partial hospitalization level of care in both private practice and community-based settings. Further, my experience has ranged among a diverse population and I actively strive to build ongoing multicultural competence and humility.
My experience in the individual therapy setting ranges from age 4 through young adulthood. In a group setting, I’ve worked with preschool-aged children through adults. My background is primarily in DBT for all ages. I have specialized training and supervision in DBT-C (DBT for children). Further, I received training through the National Education Alliance for Borderline Personality Disorder for Family Connections, which is a DBT skills-based group for the family system of those struggling with pervasive emotion dysregulation.

What Clients Say About Working With Allie
Allie has helped me manage emotions so that I am no longer in an unsafe place. Allie has taught me that I have something to live for and that my life can get better. She has made me feel so safe and comfortable and I have always felt supported both in and out of our sessions together. I cannot say enough good things about her.
I was born and raised in New Jersey and moved to the DC area in 2018. I have a golden retriever named Bear and an orange tabby named Tito who are my pride and joy. The beach is my happy place! In the summer you can find me between Rehoboth Beach, DE and “down the shore” in NJ. I love to be creative and usually have at least two projects going on at a time, ranging from drawing illustrations to re-designing a room. I also enjoy staying active, which could mean taking Bear for long walks, practicing yoga, or taking cycling classes.
For every piece of me that loves to be active, an equal piece of me loves to lay on the couch, binge watch Netflix, and take naps. In my down time, I can probably be found with a bowl of popcorn and watching The Office. I am always listening to an audio-book or a podcast and welcome recommendations of all genres.
